This is record of my gr gr grandfather's 4th enlistment in the 6th Infantry. He served 23 years in the US Army according to copy from his obituary in Bancroft's "History of Oregon. I have copies from both his 4th enlistment at Carondolet, Mississippi Territory in 1920 and his 5th enlistment 1834 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

"I, Samuel Walker born in Pendleton District in the state of South Carolina aged twenty three years and by occupation a soldier DO hereby acknowledge to have voluntarily enlisted this twelfth day of September 1829 as a Soldier in the Army of the United States of America, for the period of Five Years, unless sooner discharged by proper authority: Do also agree to accept such bounty, pay, rations, and clothings, as is or may be established by law. And I, Samuel Walker do solemnly swear, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the United States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against all their enemies or opposers whomsoever, and that I will observe and obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the orders of theOfficers appointed over me; according to the Rules and Articles of War.

"I certify, on honor, That I have carefully examined the above named Recruit, agreeably to the General Regulations of the Army, and that in my opinion he is free froom all bodily defects and mental infirmity, which would, in any way, disqualify him from performing the duties of a Soldier.

"I CERTIFY, ON HONOR, That I have minutely Inspected the Recruit, Samuel Walker previous to his enlistment, who was entirely sobert when enlisted; and that in accepting him as duly qualified to perform the duties ov an able bodied Soldier, I have strictly observed the Regulations which govern the Recruiting Service. This Recruit has "Hazel" eyes, "dark" hair, "fair" complexion, is Six" feet, "Two" inches high .

This is a record of my gr gr grandfather Samuel Walker's 5th enlistment in the 6th Infantry - 1834 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. According to the copy of his obituary in Bancroft's "History of Oregon" he served 23 years in the US Army.

I, Samuel Walker born in Pendleton County in the State of South Carolina aged thirty two years, and by occupation a farmer Do hereby acknowledge to have voluntarily enlisted this fifth day of December 1834 as a Soldier in the Army of the United States of America, for the period of (five - crossed out) three years, unless sooner discharged by proper authority : Do also agree to accept such bounty, pay, rations, and clothing, as is or may be established by law. And I Samuel Walker do solemnly swear, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the United States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against all their enemies or opposers whomsoever; and that I will observe and obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the rules and articles of War.
